The Borsig Palais
The Palias of the Kommerzienrat, August Julius Albert von Borsig, at the corner of Voßstraße was erected in 1877 by the Berlin based architect Richard Lucae. The building reached into Voßstraße and its entrance was located there as well. It is possible that the builder’s name played a role in Hitler’s decision to integrate the Palais-facade into the New Reich Chancellery. The Borsig – family supported Hitler generously during his quest for power. Hitler loved the hidden symbolic in his buildings. Although the Borsig -Palais as such was almost completely demolished to accommodate the New Reich Chancellery, it was only logical for Speer and Hitler to integrate the facade into the Reich Chancellery.
