The Hotel Kaiserhof
The east-side of the Wilhelmplatz was dominated by Hotel Kaiserhof, which was built by Berlin-based architects Hude and Hennicke. Buildings had to be removed to provide space for Hotel Kaiserhof. Ten houses were demolished between Zietenplatz and Wilhelmplatz so the hotel could be built on these properties. In addition, a new road was constructed at the south-east corner of the Wilhelmplatz. Upon its completion, the Kaiserhof was considered one of the most modern hotels in Berlin. From 1932 until his appointment to Reich Chancellor, Adolf Hitler also lived at the Hotel Kaiserhof. Even after he moved to the Reich Chancellery he occasionally frequented the hotel until the beginning of the war to attend musical events or to have dinner. Later on, the Hotel Kaiserhof’s cook prepared the meals for Adolf Hitler in the Reich Chancellery’s kitchen during Hitler’s visits to Berlin.
