Präsidialkanzlei
The Präsidialkanzlei was the first construction phase of the New Reich Chancellery and also served as the Headquarters of the “Army Adjutants’ Office to the Fuhrer and Reich Chancellor”. An air-raid shelter was integrated into the foundations of the building. From 1945 onwards, this also served as accommodation for the members of Hitler’s staff for whom there was no longer any space in the Führerbunker. The General Major of the SS, Wilhelm Mohnke, continued to use this bunker to direct the defence of the Reich Chancellery. Although the Präsidialkanzlei did not suffer during bombing raids, it was slightly damaged by artillery fire during the battle for Berlin. Authorisation to use the Präsidialkanzlei for building materials was given in 1947, and the building was detonated in 1950. |
